Dismantling the School-to-Prison Pipeline Starts With All of Us

Every day in Colorado, young people are pushed out of classrooms and into courtrooms — not because they’re dangerous, but because systems fail to see their brilliance, their learning needs, and their humanity.

At the Transformative Justice Project of Colorado (TJP), we believe in radical love — in meeting youth and families with care, not punishment. Our animated story and the data behind it show what happens when schools and systems criminalize difference. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Together, we can build a community where every young person is seen, supported, and free.

1. Learn and Share

The first step toward transformation is awareness.
  • Watch and share the video. Post it on your social media, send it to educators, parents, or friends. Use the hashtag #EndThePipeline to help others find it.
  • Follow us on Instagram @tjpcolorado to stay connected and share our stories, updates, and calls to action.

2. Advocate for Change

Policy and practice can shift when community voices come together.
  • Contact decision-makers. Tell your school board or legislators that youth deserve care, not cages. Reach out to admin@tjpcolorado.org and we’ll share templates and talking points you can personalize.
  • Invite TJP to your space. Bring our youth leaders, leadership team or staff to share stories, data, and lived expertise with your community.

3. Invest in Liberation

Every dollar helps keep young people supported and connected — not isolated or incarcerated.

4. Build Community

Transformation happens through relationships.
  • Join us in person. Attend our community events — from Ritmo y Resistencia to local gatherings — to connect and celebrate with others.
  • Volunteer your skills. Lend your talents in communications, design, or event planning. You can also support youth education and empowerment through LYRIC (Learn Your Rights in the Community). Send Us a Message >
  • Stay connected. Sign up for our newsletter to hear stories of impact, upcoming events, and new ways to get involved.

The School-to-Prison Pipeline is built by systems, but it’s dismantled by people — together.
