Community Cares

TJP’s flagship program for system-impacted youth

Community Cares is TJP’s flagship program, walking alongside system-impacted youth ages 10-25 as they navigate the legal system. Rooted in a transformative justice framework, we hold that safety and accountability don’t have to come at the cost of a young person’s dignity or future. Real, lasting change comes from healing, connection, and addressing root causes, not from surveillance or punishment alone.

We provide decolonized mental health services (counseling, crisis intervention, support groups), legal and education advocacy, court accompaniment, transportation to court and probation, resource navigation (jobs, housing, education), and community connection through monthly Community Nights and our food pantry.

Every young person in Community Cares is supported by a team built around their specific needs: a Forensic Social Worker who handles court-facing advocacy, individualized mitigation reports, and transportation, working alongside a Youth Care Coordinator who focuses on the underlying issues that contributed to legal involvement in the first place, including mental health, school, housing, and family stability. Clinical therapy, including bilingual clinical care, is available directly through our team.

We don’t just provide services. We build relationships and meet young people where they are, over months and sometimes years, not single interventions. That support often extends to the people around them, too: parents, siblings, partners, and other family members navigating the same crisis alongside the young person we serve.

Because Community Cares is built around depth rather than volume, our caseloads stay intentionally small, giving our team the time to actually know the young person in front of them: their history, their fears, what a specific courtroom means to them, and what it takes for someone to finally feel like they have people in their corner.
